USPTA
The U.S. Professional Tennis Association is the older of the two main teaching pro organizations and is more influential than its direct competitor, the Professional Tennis Registry; however, the association is more expensive and their certification process is considered more difficult by most tennis teachers. Members receive enough free product (racquets, shoes, apparel, etc.) that you may actually make a profit off your membership! The USPTA has recently added a less-expensive development membership aimed at local programmers and high school coaches.

PTR
The PTR provides more useful information for novice teachers in its training workshops than the USPTA, and its test is considered easier to pass. The PTR is less expensive than the USPTA, but free product is only available to a handful of select members. The PTR has also added a development workshop aimed at local programmers and high school coaches.
