Executive Director's Letter

If you think that boys serve harder than girls because boys are built differently, guess again. Why do Venus and Jennifer serve harder than Jimmy and Bjorn did? Our article on teaching girls to serve will help you get your girls teams serving booming aces in a matter of weeks.

Some of you are just now beginning your seasons, as the snow finally melts off the courts in the frigid Northeast. In other parts of the country, you've been practicing since December.

Wherever you coach, and whatever time of season you're currently in, it's appropriate to make sure you're working not only on the physical aspects of tennis, but the mental, as well. As you'll read in this issue of High School Tennis Coach, almost 75 percent of the time spent on the tennis court is in between points. Are you coaching your players on how to handle the majority of their match time?

Do you coach boys and girls? Please take a few minutes to e-mail us and let us know if you coach your boys teams differently than you do your girls, and what observations you have to share with coaches who may soon be joining you in dual-gender coaching.

Finally, if you haven't purchased a USHSTCA logoed coaches shirt, it's not to late. We still have about three dozen left in XL, Large and Medium so you can wear them to this seasons dual matches.

As always, good luck with your coaching.
