Preparing for College
Chuck Kriese, coach of the perennial national power house Clemson tennis team, responded to a request from the USHSTCA to share his thoughts on how high school players can better prepare for college tennis, and he shared his thoughts on a number of topics with us.
Hi Steve,
Those are excellent questions. I will be very straightforward with my answers and I hope that perhaps it will be of help.
#1 How well are high school players prepared to play at the college level?
#2 How good are the resumes and the letters etc.?
Well, I will answer both of these questions with the same remark that, in our country, people are in general much better at image than they are at substance.
It is not the high school kid's fault in full, but mainly the resumes, tapes and other stuff they send are so very sophisticated and high tech, but very often, what is there to back it up doesn't live up to the hype.
Coach Kriese continues by describing the main areas where American juniors need improvement, and what can be done before they get to college.
